Design and Construction

Designed by Ewing Cole Berry and Kloff (ECKO), the American architectural firm of the time, Veterans Stadium featured a distinctive retractable 18-story-high roof, the first of its kind in baseball history. The innovative roof featured 34 hydraulically powered panels that were designed to open and close like a giant steel accordion, allowing the stadium to be both sunny or shaded, depending on the needs of the teams and the weather.

Built with a capacity of approximately 62,000 spectators, Veterans Stadium featured a very modern design. The fixtures included:
