The New England Patriots: A Dynasty Born from Obscurity

The New England Patriots, one of the most successful teams in NFL history, have a rich and fascinating story that began in obscurity. The Early Years: 1960-1978

The Boston Patriots were founded on November 16, 1960, by Billy Sullivan, a local Boston businessman. The team was initially owned by multiple investors, led by Sullivan, and played their home games at Nickerson Field in eastern Massachusetts. However, the team struggled to find success on the field, amassing only six winning seasons in their first 19 years. In 1967, James Orthwein, a St. Louis financier, bought a controlling share of the team, renaming it the New England Patriots.

Curly Culp and the First New England Champion

Curly Culp, the former NFL defensive tackle, played for the Patriots from 1962 to 1964.
